Another Las’ Sunday Market just passed at the Bordeaux Farmers Market and youth used arts and crafts to learn about Virgin Islands history and culture under the direction of Maria “Sister Iria” Stiles of the We Grow Food, Inc. Vicki Palmer Youth and Family Activity Center. Volunteer support is needed to keep the activities ongoing.
“I would like to see the center continue to partner with artists, and with people in the community that provide information and also teach skills. There are so many artists in the community that have something to offer,” said Sister Iria.
Twice a month, youth gather to participate in multi-media activities that range from clay, to illustration, photography, newspaper making, jewelry making, painting and more. Sister Iria travels from St. Croix whenever she can to facilitate art and culture activities, but is looking for other artists to collaborate in order to keep youth activities in the center twice monthly.
