Reclaiming Our Village March

ST.THOMAS, USVI, October 11, 2020: The Aaron Nicolas Hamilton Ashby Foundation, Inc. today announced it will host a first-of-its-kind, the Reclaiming Our Village March. The event will provide the foundations for leaders and adults of the USVI community to connect with children through mentorship.

In the year 2020 more lives have been lost in the USVI due to gun violence than the dreaded COVID-19. Of the 40 lives lost in 2020, Aaron Nicolas Hamilton Ashby has been the youngest, at 14 years old. The movement will be focused on the prospect of saving the lives of youth who may be potentially at risk of falling prey to the streets and others in need of mentorship by a caring adult.

The foundation’s mission is to create a thriving environment for children and to establish an all-boys academy focused on whole-child development in the USVI. Through its first event, Reclaiming Our Village March, the foundation seeks to create the beginnings of adult/child partnerships. Subsequently the relationships will be encouraged via regular meetings and referrals to resources to potentially foster the relationships. If only one child is saved from making a life altering tragic decision, the foundation will consider the movement a success!

Like it or not, the village is on its way back and we need the community’s involvement. Invited guests include educators, behavioral health professionals, law enforcement, clergy, elected officials, adults and children of the community and we’d be honored to have members of the media join us.
