village“The Conversation: It Takes a Village,” is a community meeting to be held at 6:30 pm on Friday, September 16, 2016 at the Oswald Harris Court (aka “Housing”) Community Center. According to Zee Testamark, VI Sisters that ROCK President, “In light of recent events on our islands, we need to WORK TOGETHER to bring about Change.”

On a mission to empower women of like minds, to give back to our community, uplift our brothers, be a voice of strength, they are inviting anyone with a vested interest in saving our youth to be a part of the important dialogue.

We can ask many questions OR WE CAN be apart of the SOLUTION.. we chose to be apart of the SOLUTION!

11th Annual Dollar fo’ Dollar Culture and History Tour

d4d-committee-wuvi-studio-picBelow, listen and learn about the 11th Annual Dollar fo’ Dollar Culture and History Tour from Ayesha Morris and Jahweh David, and myself DaraMonifah Cooper, the three founding members of the Dollar fo’ Dollar Culture and History Tour, Inc. as they share the tour’s history, expected activities, partnering artists, and more.

Walking, drumming and dancing on Saturday, September 24, 2016 on the streets of Charlotte Amalie and Savan, the Dollar fo’ Dollar Culture and History Tour honors, celebrates and commemorates Virgin Islands history. This Monday, September 12, will be the 124th anniversary of the coal workers strike who dances, drummed and peacefully protested in order to get their proper wages. The Coal Workers strike came on the heels of St. John’s 1733 revolution and St. Croix’s 1878 Contract Day Fireburn.

New this year, the tour will include stops at the houses of actual Coal Workers form the period in the Savan neighborhood discovered through research by Ayesha Morris in the 1880 and 1901 census records at the Caribbean Genealogy Library.
