July 3, 2020, marks the 172nd anniversary of the Emancipation of enslaved Africans in the United Virgin Islands (formerly known as the Danish West Indies).

On St. Thomas, The Emancipation Day Coalition and the Pan African Support Group have been putting together emancipation day programs since the 70s held at the Emancipation Garden. This year their efforts are a radio program instead of in person due to the precautions of not holding events with large crowds because of COVID-19.

ST. JOHN
On St. John, Emancipation Day often take place in Cruz Bay and the Echo People drummers usually perform. Awaiting more information on if anything will be happening on St. John.
