Day Planetarium at UVI

The next “UVI Astronomy Day” featuring UVI’s new mobile-planetarium will be held at the UVI library this Saturday, March 17th from 12:00p-5:00p. Watch full length video here to learn more and see inside the StarLab planetarium.

They will have the planetarium set up inside the library and UVI physics faculty and students will take visitors on a tour of the night sky and our solar system.

They will also have solar telescopes set up outside of the library for viewing the Sun (weather permitting) as well as arts and crafts tables set up for younger visitors. Reservations are not required (free tickets will be handed out at the library for entry to the planetarium shows).

These planetarium events are a new component of the Etelman Observatory education and outreach program. Because the Etelman Observatory is not yet prepared to reopen to the public due to damage from hurricanes, these events are currently our their outreach venue.

On campus, UVI students utilize it Monday and Fridays. On Fridays the StarLab is used for teaching students from different schools. Once a month on Saturdays between 12 noon – 5:00 p.m. it is available for the community. To find out when, join the mailing list by sending an email request to etelmanobservatory@gmail.com.

Once the Observatory is reopened, they will also return to hosting the usual monthly, nighttime open observing nights and will also continue these weekend planetarium events.
