Adobe helps Students tell VI Stories

I’m so excited to have learned new mobile photography skills from Adobe on Friday, July 20th, so I can continue to share more of our beautiful home with us and teach more Sankofa Saturdays & WUVI Radio students how to do the same at the University of the Virgin Islands!

Watch our conversation below at WUVI Radio with Erin Sullivan and Raven Phillips-Love after the Adobe Mobile Photography Lightroom Workshop.

Everyone that knows me well, or at least my work with the Sankofa Saturdays Youth Cultural Education Initiative, knows that I’m all about empowering VI youth to tell their own stories and helping to tell the story of the Virgin Islands using new media. So when a local journalist sent me the link about Adobe teaming up with the VI Department of Tourism to offer a free workshop (see flyer below) for students on mobile Photography, I jumped at the chance to attend. I also invited other students who I knew shared the interest.

The video below shares thoughts with videographer Andy To and local freelance journalist Raven Phillips-Love on our experience at the Adobe Workshop. They tell why they think that capturing photos and video for tourism marketing should focus on showcasing direct perspectives of actual Virgin Islands people in a way that respects them first as individuals while also sharing inviting details about their home.
