First Charlotte Amalie Historic Steps Walk/Run
From Roy Watlington, STARR

On Saturday afternoon, May 28th, walkers, runners and perhaps also some pedestrians more interested in history than in exertion will course through some of Charlotte Amalie’s historic neighborhoods as the St. Thomas Association of Roadrunners (STAR) conducts the first St. Thomas Historic Steps Walk/Run. The event is intended to provide some exercise while renewing appreciation for the many stairways that actually served as streets connecting various neighborhoods of Charlotte Amalie neighborhoods and providing access to individual homes. The total distance covered will be about 1 ½ miles.

Staring at 5:00 PM in the Emancipation Garden participants will step their way through the famous 99 Steps, then Blackbeard’s, Bunker Hill, Garden Street, Catherineberg, Savan, Vester Gade and Crystal Gade before returning to the Emancipation Garden. Guides will show the way for participants and water will be provided along the way.

One can register in advance at Mystic Valley in Tillett’s Gardens or on event day in the Emancipation Garden starting at 4:15PM. Entry fees are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for youth under 18. Proceeds will be donated to the Historic Trust.
